Emergency Incidents

Whilst the Manjimup Trail Bike Hub will endeavour to keep riders informed of any incidents, these can evolve quickly. Riders should check the latest weather warnings, bushfire warnings and updates regularly for any areas they plan to travel through by visiting www.emergency.wa.gov.au  and the Bureau of Meteorology http://www.bom.gov.au . The Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) is the government department that is responsible for fire and emergency services in Western Australia and will update information regularly as it comes to hand, including wildfires and prescribed burns. The Bureau of Meteorology provides overall weather updates for all parts of Australia, including the latest fire warnings.  It is strongly recommended that riders access the bushfire warnings notifications via the Service WA App, with notifications sent straight to your device.

Road closure information can be found on the Main Roads website, click on www.mainroads.wa.gov.au  to check if routes are affected by roadworks or closures.

  • Bushfire Information Hotline – call 1300 362 361

No matter when you ride, minimise the impact of your presence to preserve the state of the trails and their surroundings,  and remain vigilant about the risk of fire:

    • Stay on track and published routes and abide by all signage.
    • Familiarise yourself with vehicle movement bans and total fire bans via the DFES website here
    • Before riding, always check for planned prescribed burns, bushfire and emergency warnings at www.emergency.wa.gov.au  and the Bureau of Meteorology http://www.bom.gov.au
    • See smoke in the warmer months? Call 000. Don’t assume someone else will have reported it.
    • Bushfire Information Hotline – call 1300 362 361
  • The Southern Forests can experience extreme rainfall and intense storms in short timeframes, creating the perfect conditions for flash flooding and fallen trees.  It is strongly recommended you be aware of the potential weather conditions while you’re in the area, plan accordingly, and report a problem if you see it. Also you may have ridden a trail yesterday, and a tree could be down today – trail conditions can change on a daily basis.

  • Always ride within your capabilities and those of your bike.
  • Our trails are graded via a difficulty rating system. Pick the route level of difficulty suitable for you, your group, your bikes, and current conditions.
  • Ride to conditions – changing conditions can affect the trail difficulty rating.
  • Have maps, GPS and an EPIRB is recommended as many of our routes are beyond range of mobile service coverage.
  • If you are riding solo, always let someone know your planned route, and expected return time.
  • Always wear an approved helmet (mandatory) and quality protective gear: boots, gloves, goggles, long pants, riding top, body armour.
  • Stay left of the road or track, especially on the approach to curves or crests.
  • If you are the lead rider, always be aware that there may be another rider, 4WD, walker etc coming the other way and ride accordingly.
  • Plan ahead –  weather conditions can change rapidly
  • Carry all necessary supplies including a first aid kit, emergency repair kit, food, water and appropriate clothing.
  • Know your vehicle and keep it in good condition
  • Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs and don’t let your mates.
